About Lhrh

What is LHRH?

Luteinising hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland. It is primarily responsible for regulating luteinising hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. In males, these hormones have a variety of roles including stimulating the production of the male hormone testosterone.

In females, they are important for follicle development and release during the menstrual cycle. Atypical LHRH during puberty can result in abnormal physical development. LHRH agonists are administered as hormone therapy to help treat certain cancers. Prostate cancer, for example, relies on testosterone, meaning that down-regulation of testosterone can reduce the growth of cancer.

Why take the test?

This test measures the amount of LHRH in the blood. It is typically used to monitor correct hormone production during puberty.
