What are pituitary antibodies?

The pituitary gland is a gland in the brain responsible for the production, release and regulation of many hormones. These include growth hormone which is required for normal bone growth and hormones involved in the development of sexual characteristics.

Antibodies are proteins typically produced by the immune system to target and protect against harmful entities. In some cases, the immune system can malfunction, producing antibodies which target and attack the body’s own cells called autoantibodies. Pituitary antibodies are associated with lymphocytic hypophysitis and pituitary diseases.

Why take the test?

This test measures the level of pituitary antibodies in the blood and can be used to investigate pituitary diseases or lymphocytic hypophysitis.

Take your test and post

Follow our simple instructions to take your sample and post back the enclosed prepaid envelope to our accredited lab for processing. We also offer home or workplace visits by a qualified nurse. For COVID-19 Fit to Fly tests you must attend one of our partner clinics for our trained collection officers to take your sample. You will then have the results emailed to you.
