About Oestrone

What is oestrone?

Oestrone is one of the three main naturally produced oestrogen hormones, along with oestradiol and oestriol. Oestrone is the weakest of the three and is primarily produced by the ovaries and adipose tissue. It is the main female hormone produced after the menopause, it is believed to function primarily as a repository for oestrogens and converted to one of the other oestrogen hormones if necessary. Oestrone levels are sometimes elevated in breast cancer or prostate cancer patients.

Why take the test?

This test measures the level of oestrone in the blood. It is typically used to monitor female hormone therapy, postmenopausal vaginal bleeding or cancers of the breast and prostate.

For COVID-19 Fit to Fly tests you must attend one of our partner clinics for our trained collection officers to take your sample. You will then have the results emailed to you.
