What is immunoglobulin M?
Immunoglobulin G (IgM) is a type of antibody typically produced by the immune system to protect against pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and parasites. It is the first antibody produced in response to an infection and offers short-term protection. High levels of IgM are associated with inflammation.
