About Urine microscopy
What is urine microscopy?
The kidneys filter the blood to retain cells and substances required by the body and to excrete waste products in the urine.
Sometimes excess cells and substances are lost in the urine; this is indicative of a disease or infection.
For instance, bacteria and white blood cells may be present in the urine as a result of infection. This test uses microscopy to analyse the waste products excreted in the urine.
Why take this test?
This test uses microscopy to look for abnormal levels of cells, crystals, casts and pathogens in the urine.
