About Glucagon
What is glucagon?
Glucagon is a hormone produced primarily by alpha cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, but it is also produced by alpha cells in the stomach. It is responsible for elevating blood glucose and fatty acid levels, stimulating the breakdown of the body’s energy stores. It is generally released in response to low blood glucose levels to prevent hypoglycaemia.
Why take the test?
This test measures the level of the hormone glucagon in the blood. It is typically used to diagnose pancreatic problems or growth hormone deficiency in children.
