About Tropical screen

What is a tropical screen?

Many parasites are more prevalent in tropical areas as a result of lower hygiene and sanitary conditions. People may become infected from contaminated water or food or from insects such as mosquitoes.

This test can help diagnose malaria, schistosomiasis (also known as bilharzia), toxoplasma, amoebiasis, echinococcosis or leishmaniasis.

Symptoms may vary depending on the type of infection and between different people, but symptoms may include fever, vomiting and diarrhoea, headache and tiredness.

Why take the test?

The tropical screen looks for infections caused by parasites prevalent in tropical areas including malaria, schistosomiasis (also known as bilharzia), toxoplasma, amoebiasis, echinococcosis or leishmaniasis
