About Psittacosis antibodies

What are psittacosis antibodies?

Psittacosis (parrot fever) is a respiratory disease caused by infection with Chlamydia psittaci bacteria. The disease is typically spread to humans through inhalation or ingestion of contaminated material such as faeces from infected birds. Symptoms of psittacosis vary in severity, ranging from mild symptoms including headaches, fever, dry cough and muscle aches, to severe pneumonia.

Why take the test?

This test screens for antibodies produced by the immune system in response to infection with Chlamydia psittaci. It is used to diagnose psittacosis (parrot fever).
