About Oxalate (urine)

What is oxalate?

Oxalate is a substance found in food that is associated with kidney stones. It is also a waste product formed by the body. Oxalate is processed by the kidneys and excreted in the urine. If oxalate builds up, it combines with calcium to produce kidney stones which can result in severe pain. High levels of oxalate in the urine indicate a greater risk of developing kidney stones.

Why take the test?

This test measures the level of oxalate in the urine and can be used to assess the risk of developing kidney stones.
