What is mercury?
Mercury is a heavy metal found in the natural environment. It is released into the environment by human activities such as metal processing, incineration and mining. Exposure to mercury is most common through contaminated seafood. It is also present in dental fillings. Acute symptoms of arsenic poisoning include abdominal pains, vomiting and diarrhoea, headache and weakness. Long-term effects typically result in damage to the kidneys and brain.
