About Globulin

What are globulins?

Globulins are immune proteins produced by the liver and immune system. There are four main types of globulin; alpha-1, alpha-2, beta and gamma (which includes antibodies). They play a role in a variety of processes including blood clotting, liver function and immune response to pathogens. Globulin level changes are associated with infection, liver disease, kidney disease, autoimmune conditions, nutritional deficiencies and cancers.

Why take the test?

This test measures the globulin levels in the blood. It is typically used to diagnose infection, liver disease, kidney disease, autoimmune conditions, nutritional deficiencies or cancers.
