What is gardnerella vaginalis?
Gardnerella vaginalis is an anaerobic bacterium associated with bacterial vaginosis. Bacterial vaginosis is an imbalance in the natural flora of the vagina. It is usually not serious and can be asymptomatic and resolve by itself or present with several common symptoms and require antibiotics to restore natural balance. Typical symptoms of bacterial vaginosis include; odorous discharge, white or grey discharge and thin and watery discharge. It does not typically result in itching or soreness.
