About Epstein-barr virus (ebv-dna)
What is the Epstein-Barr virus?
The Epstein-Barr virus is a herpes virus which causes glandular fever, also known as mononucleosis. It is one of the most common viruses to infect humans and is spread by body fluids. Symptoms of the virus include fatigue, fever, swollen lymph nodes and a sore throat. It is common to be infected as a child and not to show any symptoms. In teenagers or adults, symptoms may last a couple of weeks and in some cases, several months.
Why take the test?
This test measures the level of Epstein-Barr virus DNA in the blood and can be used to help diagnose an infection with the Epstein-Barr virus.
