About Entamoeba histolytica antigen
What is Entameba histolytica?
Entameba histolytica (E. histolytica) is a parasitic amoeba which infects humans causing amoebiasis. The majority of people infected with E. histolytica will not present with symptoms. However, in some cases, E. histolytica can cause loose stools, stomach cramps and in more severe infections can cause bloody stools, colitis, liver abscesses and damage to other tissues including the brain. Infections with E. histolytica are most common in tropical areas with poor sanitary conditions. People can become infected with E. histolytica through contaminated food or water, or through contact with the faecal matter of someone infected with E. histolytica.
