What are cryoglobulins?
Cryoglobulins are abnormal antibodies which become solid or gel-like at low temperatures and re-dissolve when warmed. Cryoglobulins come in different types and are associated with a variety of disorders. Conditions associated with cryoglobulins include hepatitis C infection, autoimmune disorders and hematologic diseases.
Why take this test?
This test screens for the presence of cryoglobulins in the blood by cooling the sample below 37°C. It is used to diagnose conditions which present after exposure to cold temperatures.
