About Cadmium blood test
What is cadmium?
Cadmium is a heavy metal which is toxic to the body even in small amounts. It is not normally found in the natural environment as a pure metal but is released into the environment often as a by-product extracted in mining for zinc and copper or through burning fossil fuels.
Exposure to arsenic is most common through tobacco smoke and contaminated food. Acute symptoms of cadmium poisoning include chills, fever, abdominal pains and vomiting. Long-term exposure typically affects the lung and kidneys.
Why take the test?
This test measures the level of cadmium in your blood and can be used to help detect and monitor exposure to cadmium.
