About Blood group

What are blood groups?

The surfaces of cells are covered in unique antigens, markers the body uses to identify them. Different blood groups present with different surface antigens which the body recognises either as its own or as foreign. Blood type is important, as the immune system may target blood cells of a different type after a transfusion or during pregnancy if the mother and child have different blood groups. There are many classification systems for blood type, with ABO and rhesus (positive or negative) being the most important.

Why take the test?

This test provides information on your ABO and rhesus blood groups. It is important to have this information for pregnancies and transfusions.
