About Aldolase
What is aldolase?
Aldolase is an enzyme involved in breaking down glucose to produce energy (glycolysis). It is found throughout the body but concentrated in energy-consuming muscle tissue. High levels of aldolase in the blood are associated with muscle damage, liver diseases and cancers.
Disorders associated with blood aldolase levels include muscular damage, muscular dystrophy, dermatomyositis, hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis, liver, pancreatic and prostate cancers, myocardial infarction and polymyositis.
Why take the test?
This test measures the level of aldolase in the blood. It is typically used to diagnose and monitor muscle damage or liver disease.
