About 6-thioguanine nucleotide (6tgn)

What is 6-thioguanine-nucleotide?

6-Thioguanine-nucleotide (6-TGN) is a metabolite of thiopurines, immunosuppressive drugs used to treat inflammatory disorders such as Crohn’s disease. 6-TGN is the active compound produced from thiopurines. However, 6-TGN can also be harmful to cells and cause toxicities.

Why take the test?

This test measures the level of 6-TGN in the blood and can be used to predict the response to thiopurines to improve patient treatment.
