About Venous Antibody Test

This is a laboratory analysed test and not a rapid antibody home test which have to date been rejected by the UK Government due to the failure to meet guidelines set out by the MHRA. The test assay used is ABBOTT and approved by Public Health England.

This package involves a venous sample being taken in central london, off Harley Street in the W1 Post-Code and/or you must make your own arrangements.  Avaliable appointment times are Monday - Friday (09:30am - 3pm) and Saturdays (09:30 - 12pm). We will work around you for appointments.

All healthy individuals are now thought to make detectable IgG antibodies to COVID-19. These antibodies can be detected from about day 2 after the onset of symptoms with 100% seroconversion by day 20. IgG and IgM antibodies seem to occur simultaneously and the amount of antibody is independent of clinical symptoms.  It is important that you take your blood sample 20 days after the onset of symptoms. This will give your body time to generate antibodies. Abbott claim their test is 100% sensitive (88 Samples) and 99.6% specific (1070 Samples). Our UK Accredited Partner Lab have run their our own internal verification of these claims and and achieved a sensitivity of 98.5% (132 Samples) and a specificity of 99.5%. (186 Samples).

Results will be reported as Negative/Positive.  Your results will be displayed as a positive or negative. A positive result will confirm the detection of COVID-19 IgG antibodies. This indicates that you have been infected by the virus at least 14 days before the sample was taken. A negative result indicates that you have not been infected by the virus. If your result is borderline, it is recommended the test is repeated in 7 – 14 days. Please note  - It is possible that a negative result may be returned if the infection was mild or if the sample was taken without waiting more than 20 days since the onset of symptoms.  - This test is for, and to be used by, people aged 18 years and over.

Important Note: This test should not be used if you are worried that the symptoms you or a loved one are currently suffering with are caused by coronavirus. If this is the case please visit nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ to see the most up to date UK Government guidelines. Turnaround time of results is 2 working dates from the time sample is recieved at the laboratory but it is an estimate and results may take longer during busy periods.
