About Microalbumin

What is microalbumin?

Albumin is the primary protein component of blood plasma. Made by the liver, it is responsible for keeping fluid in your bloodstream and transporting substances such as medicines, enzymes, hormones and vitamins around the body. Microalbumin is small amounts of albumin in the urine. It can be used as an early indicator of kidney problems. Disorders associated with urine microalbumin include kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Why take the test?

This test measures the level of albumin in the urine. It is typically used to monitor diabetes and high blood pressure.
