About Gamma gt

What is gamma GT?

Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is an enzyme produced by the liver. It is involved in the transfer of amino acids across many cell membranes and glutathione antioxidant metabolism in response to oxidative stress. Elevated blood GGT correlates strongly with liver health.

Why take the test?

This test measures the level of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) in the blood. It is typically used to diagnose chronic alcohol abuse and liver disease.
