About Creatinine clearance
What is creatinine?
Creatinine is a protein produced by normal muscle breakdown. It is a waste product that must be filtered and excreted by the kidneys and is a useful marker of kidney function. Creatinine clearance is a measure of how much creatinine is cleared by the kidneys. It can either be determined by a formula using the level of creatinine in the blood, patient's age and weight or by collecting urine over 24 hours.
Why take the test?
This test measures creatinine clearance and can be used to help determine kidney function.
