What is a pregnancy test?
The pregnancy test detects a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) that is only released during pregnancy. hCG is produced by the cells that form the placenta after fertilisation of an egg and the level of hCG increases throughout the beginning of pregnancy.
