About Vitamin b12 check plus

What is a vitamin B12 check plus?

Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin for making red blood cells (RBCs) and for the function of nerves. Vitamin B12 is found in meat, fish, dairy and eggs. A deficiency in B12 may lead to anaemia. Anaemia is a common blood condition characterised by low levels of red blood cells (RBCs) or haemoglobin.

Haemoglobin is an important component of RBCs responsible for transporting oxygen. It is important to have the right amount of haemoglobin and RBCs to supply the body with enough oxygen. Anaemia can cause symptoms including fatigue, weakness and pale skin.

Anaemia may develop as a result of a deficiency in your diet, from conditions affecting the health of your RBCs or from significant blood loss. Iron-deficiency anaemia is the most common type of anaemia caused by a lack of iron. Iron, as well as vitamin B12 and folate, are important for RBC production.
