About Allergy screen (uk)
What is the Allergy Screen (UK)?
Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is a type of antibody typically produced by the immune system to protect against pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and parasites. Some people have a hyperactive immune system, which produces IgE in response to certain allergens. This process mistakes harmless molecules for pathogens, typically causing symptoms such as rashes, blocked/runny noses or respiratory problems. Allergies are thought to affect over 1 in 4 people in the UK at some point during their lifetime.
Why take the test?
This is a test to identify potential allergies to many common allergens present in the UK. It measures the levels of IgE in the blood, along with screening for reactions to a variety of common allergens present in the UK, including those from foods, plants and animals.
