What is the Allergy Screen (Cereals)?
Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is a type of antibody typically produced by the immune system to protect against pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and parasites. Some people have a hyperactive immune system, which produces IgE in response to certain foods such as cereals (e.g. wheat and barley). This process mistakes harmless molecules for pathogens, causing an allergic reaction. Allergies are thought to affect over 1 in 4 people in the UK at some point during their lifetime.

This test is to identify potential cereal allergies. It measures the levels of IgE in the blood, along with screening for reactions to a variety of cereals including barley, oat, rye and wheat.

Take your test and post
Follow our simple instructions to take your sample and post back the enclosed prepaid envelope to our accredited lab for processing. We also offer home or workplace visits by a qualified nurse. For COVID-19 Fit to Fly tests you must attend one of our partner clinics for our trained collection officers to take your sample. You will then have the results emailed to you.
